Overview

Being an au pair in America is an experience you'll never forget with new and exciting things to see and do everyday.

By being a part of an American host family you will experience more than you could as a visitor.  You will experience American holidays, birthdays, family celebrations, dinners out, and watching kids' sporting events with the family! Even the day-to-day things, like going to the grocery store, will make you understand America better!  Some things will be new, strange, and maybe even funny; some things you will see are exactly the same.
During your year you will have 6 weeks to travel; spend a week in New York City for Au Pair Orientation and Training and you will have the opportunity to explore options to study in the U.S. by taking classes at American colleges and universities. Your year will be full of fun and adventure!

Requirement for the program
• Be 18 to 26 years-old and in good health
• Have a genuine love of children and previous
childcare experience
• Speak and understand English and be a secondary
school graduate
• Have an international driver¡¯s license and a minimum of 50 hours of driving experience
• Be a non-smoker or be prepared to stop smoking if required by the host family
• Be of good character and receive a police clearance report
• Be prepared to commit to 12 months away from home
• Have not previously lived in the U.S. as an au pair

One of the great advantages of becoming an au pair is the chance to take classes at American universities and schools.
The United States Department of State requires that all au pairs enroll in an accredited post-secondary institution for not less than six credit hours of academic credit or its equivalent. This means that during your au pair year you must take, generally, any two classes of your choosing in a classroom-type setting at an American community college, college, or university. Your host family will contribute up to $500 toward the cost of these classes.
